Dame Flora Duffy is in the running to win a vote for the Commonwealth Games greatest moment but will need Bermuda’s help as time runs out on the competition

Duffy has been nominated for winning Bermuda’s first gold medal at the Games in the triathlon on Australia’s Gold Coast in 2018.

Commonwealth Games organisers have shortlisted 16 iconic moments of sporting history in the first round, with members of the public eligible to vote for Bermuda’s golden girl until Friday, July 10.

The three moments with the highest votes will then make it through to the final, with voting reopening to crown the overall winner.

Duffy is competing against some icons for the top honour with Usain Bolt, Roger Bannister, Cathy Freeman and Natalie du Toit also nominated.

Bannister was selected for winning the iconic “Miracle Mile” in Vancouver in 1954, while Freeman’s decision to carry both the Australian and Aboriginal flags after winning gold in 1994 was also chosen.

Bolt lit up Glasgow in 2014, anchoring Jamaica to 4x100m relay gold in one of the Games’ biggest crowd moments, while Du Toit made history in Manchester in 2002, winning Para swimming golds and reaching the able-bodied 800m freestyle final in a remarkable Games performance.
