Bruni claims Gold Cup

Francesco Bruni (Luna Rossa) captured a maiden Argo Group Gold Cup in Hamilton Harbour today.

The Italian skipper beat Ben Ainslie (Ben Ainslie Racing Team) 3-2 in a final that went down the wire in variable and shifty conditions.

Ainslie fought back from 0-2 down to force a fifth and deciding match before ultimately coming up short in his bid for a third Gold Cup.

Bruni pocketed the $50,000 winner's prize while Ainslie earned $20,000 for his efforts.

Earlier today defending champ Taylor Canfield (USone Sailing) was eliminated, losing 0-3 to Bruni.

Ainslie won the other semi-final 3-0 over past match racing champion Adam Minoprio (Team Alpari FX).
