Wells on road to Wembley

Nahki Wells could be in line to run out at Wembley Stadium the Mecca of English football after Carlisle United booked their place in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.The League One side beat Huddersfield 4-3 over two legs and will now face Brentford on Sunday, April 3.United were 4-0 winners at Brunton Park to give the club a significant first-leg lead, but were handed a scare in Tuesday night’s second leg, going down –3-0.Carlisle boss Greg Abbott said: “It’s a fantastic achievement. The attitude of the players was magnificent, and it’s no small feat, the players deserve a well done.”It’s the second successive year Carlisle have reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final, having lost to Southampton last season.Wells, 19, has made one substitute appearance for Carlisle since signing a five-month contract for the Cumbrian outfit on New Year’s Day.The ex-Dandy Town striker was recommended for trials at United by former professional Mark Ellis who coached Wells at the International Academic Soccer Academy, in the UK, where he had been attending since last August.
