Village on verge of title triumph

PHC vNorth VillageThe game that decides the title race.Village need a point to confirm themselves as champions, while PHC can drag themselves back in the race with a victory at the Southampton Oval. With Dandy Town having a bye and four points back, the onus will be on Village to make their game in hand null and void with at least a draw.PHC, having lost to Town last week and are now six points off the pace and nothing but a win will see them claw their way back with one round remaining after this weekend. With all the chips on the table, Village will do their best to win the game and not let a repeat of last year creep back in their heads, but PHC will have something to prove as well as they watched Town celebrate their league title last year on Southampton Oval.Prediction: Village 2-1St. David’s vBoulevardSt. David’s didn’t expect to get three points last week against league leaders North Village, but they should be looking to get something out of this match at home given Boulevard don’t have anything to play for.Still out of the bottom two, albeit by only two points, the pressure will be on St. David’s who saw rivals Southampton Rangers overtake them last weekend. A Somerset Eagles win would see them also leapfrog the Islanders if they fail to get a victory.Having a far inferior goal difference won’t help the side, but having a two point cushion with two games remaining should give them a sense of relieve heading into the game.It can all change however, should the side not get a positive result so the first goal will be crucial.Prediction: 1-1St. George’s v Somerset EaglesEagles will need to up the tempo in their efforts of staying up and nothing would be better then to grab three points on the road in the penultimate game of the season.St. George’s will be looking to end the season on a high after being knocked out of the Friendship competition on Wednesday night. The onus will be on the visitors who will see their status all but stripped if they fail to get a positive result and St. David’s get something out of their match. While time is running out for the West End club, it isn’t far fetched that they can still sneak this one out at the Wellington Oval.Prediction: 2-2Devonshire Cougars vDevonshire ColtsWith neither side having anything to play for, it will be interesting to see the line-ups the two teams put out for the Devonshire derby at the Rec.Look for Cougars to come out blazing as they will want to exact revenge on their early season loss to their nearby neighbours at home.Prediction: Cougars 3-1Dandy Town vSouthampton RangersRelegation threatened Southampton Rangers probably couldn’t be playing Dandy Town at a better time. The Hornets will only have a few days to recover from last night’s CFU Club Championship match against Defence Force, and Rangers will be looking to take advantage of any weariness. For Hornets, the title race is all but over unless they win and Village slip up against PHC. Rangers, on the other hand, need the points for very different reasons.
