Wolves snap up Peniston and Tucker

First Division Wolves look set to make a promotion push after snapping up talented midfielders Jared Peniston and Troy Tucker.

Former Bermuda international Peniston joins his boyhood club from Premier Division Dandy Town, while Hogges schemer Tucker signs from Somerset Eagles.

John Barry Nusum’s ambitious side have also strengthened their squad by signing Shannon DeShields, Tamauri Tucker, Anthony Hunter and Marcus Ming.

Yesterday, Bermuda Football Association (BFA) disclosed a list of players who had sought releases ahead of the new season. Other notable movers were Aljame Zuill who has joined Dandy Town from Devonshire Cougars, Shakir Smith who has signed for PHC from Somerset Eagles and Jaylon Bather who has left Eagles for BAA Wanderers. Defending Premier Division champions North Village have bolstered their squad with Bermuda internationals Jason Davis and Lashun Dill, who have joined from Boulevard and Dandy Town respectively.

Robin Hood have been busy this summer, picking up eight new players, including Hogges player Daniel Andrade from Eagles, while Somerset Trojans have added Al-Rashid Ebbin from Hamilton Parish and Eagles’ Damon Swan.

Nusum expects to have a few selection headaches next season after improving both the quality and quantity of his squad. “It’s a good group of guys that have come in, but I’m trying to keep the core that’s been here all this time and add just a few things,” said Nusum.

“In an ideal world you would want all of these players to choose from so the headache now is to choose a side every week.

“Obviously having Jared back brings a boost to us, which we have already been seen in training. He is ready to make an impact here and we are ready for the season. The other signings will also bring top flight experience, so the season is shaping up to be a good one for us.”

Nusum flew out to Trinidad last night to link up with the Bermuda team ahead of their World Cup Qualifier against Guyana on Tuesday.

The big striker has been added to the Bermuda squad for the second game of their trip to the Caribbean after being left out of Devarr Boyles original plans because of work commitments. He said: “What happened was I had a commitment with my job as far as what I was doing with the kids this week, so obviously, today’s Friday, last day of the week, and I’m free to travel,” said Nusum.

“Everything was happening so fast and last minute and I thought the commitment I had to the kids was something I needed to hold on to.

“Devarr and I actually spoke about this before they took off. We knew what the plan was going forward anyway.”

Nusum’s addition will add more experience to the Bermuda squad. Reiko Trott is also joining the team today.

“For me, I have a bit more experience than some guys, and so it’s just kind of giving a little push where a push is needed in some areas,” he said. “In other areas I’m learning from a lot of the younger guys because a lot of these younger guys had opportunities that a lot of us haven’t had.”
