Dandy Town 1 St. George’s 1St George’s striker Clay Darrell made Dandy Town pay for a second-half penalty miss with a late equaliser in the Dudley Eve at Bernard Park on Saturday.Dandy Town opened the scoring midway through the first half when Fabian Frankson struck a thunderbolt from 25 yards, which give St George’s goalkeeper Eunico Trott no chance.Hornets continued to dominate throughout the first period but struggled to break down St George’s’ well organised backline. However, they should have killed the game off midway through the second half when substitute Caldre Burgess won his side a penalty after being tripped by St George’s midfielder Chae Simmons.Veteran striker Aljame Zuill, who had replaced Lynn Tucker moments earlier, stepped up to take the spot kick but saw his effort palmed away by youngster Trott.Richard Todd’s team seemed visibly buoyed by Zuill’s miss and drew level with around ten minutes remaining when Darrell latched on to a through ball by Jahron Dickinson before stroking the ball home.Hornets, who also hit the post in the second half through Damon Ming, enjoyed the lion’s share of possession throughout the encounter although Todd’s team showed plenty of spirit and finished the stronger of the two sides.Dandy Town coach Jomar Wilkinson admitted his side had faded slightly as the game wore on but was encouraged by aspects of their play.“We created the better chances, had more possession, and I thought we deserved to win the game,” he said.“I thought our fitness was a bit of a problem today but I saw some encouraging signs and I feel good about this season.”Wilkinson said the penalty miss had been the flashpoint of the game but felt his team had done enough to win“It was a shame for Aljame with the penalty because he’s a goalscorer and would normally score,” he said.“Had we scored that though I don’t think St George’s could have got back into the game.”Dandy Town take on North Village in their second Dudley Eve game on Wednesday, September 28 at BAA Field.St George’s are back in action tomorrow night when they face Village at Devonshire Rec.Dandy Town: T Gibbons, Tyman Daniels, S Darrell, G Dyer, F Frankson, K Lathan, D Ming, D Butterfield, L Tucker, H Wolffe, S BrownSubstitutes not used: D Chambers, J Butterfield, Tristan Daniels, C Burgess, Z TuzoGoals: Frankson, 30Bookings: DarrellSt George’s: E Trott, G Wade, J Simmons, E Signor, S Pitcher, D Signor, C Simmons, J Bassett, J Dickinson, M Anderson, C DarrellSubstitutes not used: M Cranie, J Hayward, M Simmons, C Hill, A Dill, M Hodsall, J CarlingtonGoals: Darrell, 83Bookings: Pitcher, Simmons, Darrell, AndersonReferee: A MouchetteMan of the match: Frankson (Dandy Town)
