Village lift Charity Cup

North Village 3 Vasco 1North Village claimed the first ever Corona Rubis Charity Cup with a win over league champions Vasco at BAA Field on Saturday. The win came courtesy of solo efforts by Eugene Calder, Ross Lambe, and Nakia Smith while Quincey Aberdeen scored for Vasco. In a game that was full of intensity and excitement, Village coach Armell Thomas hailed both sides and picked out Richard Correira as his man of the match.“It’s a good feeling to win any cup but to be the first to win the Rubis Cup is special,”said Thomas. “I would say that no one should count Vasco out completely, they put up a good fight with the team they fielded.“My man of the match went to Richard Correira formerly of Vasco.“For us, we can only get better because my best team is yet to be fielded.”It was Calder’s goal that put Village in the lead before Aberdeen cancelled out his strike shortly after.Lambe’s goal proved to be the winner, while Smith added a third to put the match beyond Vasco’s reach.“This year I think the Corona League is going to be tough and exciting,” said Thoams. “Every team has done some restructuring in the off season for the better. I wish all the teams to have a good season. My aim still stands for the Red Army to finish in the top two.”
