Title contenders Village, Cougars make for mouthwatering start

North Village v Devonshire CougarsThe main game of the opening weekend will see two of the three genuine title challengers and could well be determined by an individual piece of brilliance or a mistake.Having played two weeks’ ago and with both sides having played two matches early in the season, this is setting up to be a highly entertaining game with expected fireworks. The key match-ups will be in the midfield with the side that can get on top for a period of time in the centre of the park likely to produce more goalscoring opportunities.Prediciton: Cougars 3-2PHC v Somerset TrojansPHC will be looking to start the season with a home win at the expense of long-time rivals Somerset.Their task, however, won’t be easy with Trojans having a youthful look to their side as they begin life back in the top flight. The team which settles down first will be the winner given it’s the start of the season, so the edge would have to go to Zebras who have more competitive games under their belt.Prediction: PHC 3-1Robin Hood v St David’sIn tonight’s game, the new boys might fancy their chances and with the two sides seemingly going in different directions, Hood could go top of the table for 24 hours with a win. With the Islanders losing their coach, who quit before the season started, they could be vulnerable and ripe for the picking.Look for the hosts to assert themselves with a physical style of game and get the maximum out of this match.Prediction: Hood 3-1St George’s v Southampton RangersIt’s a match that could go either way. Look for the game to be determined by the form of the strikers. Both sides have already played this month and will want to make a positive start to the campaign. But they may also be happy with a draw rather than risk defeat.St George’s’ goalkeeping will be under the microscope for this one but the defence is solid enough to limit the visitors to only a handful of good chances.Prediction: Draw 1-1Dandy Town v BoulevardA straightforward match for the beginning of their campaign, Town should have things their own way in this game. While boasting a formidable squad, they shouldn’t get complacent in their approach considering Blazers will be looking to silence a lot of their critics. Each side will have new players coming in but the hosts should be good enough to see off any threat the visitors may have at their disposal.Prediction: Town 3-0
