Rangers sink below par Cougars
Southampton Rangers 4 Devonshire Cougars 1Adrian Burrows and Kemon Simmons both bagged braces to help Southampton Rangers to a convincing win over Devonshire Cougars in the Dudley Eve at BAA Field last night.
Although the result mattered little both teams having already qualified for the next round it will certainly cause Cougars coach Dennis Brown a smidgen of concern.
Cougars may have created chances throughout but their defence seemed intent in shooting themselves in the foot, with their rookie goalkeeper Kioshia Trott having a particularly tough night.
Rangers took the lead early on when striker Adrian Burrows continued his early season scoring form by scrabbling the ball home following a free kick.
Just after the half hour mark Cougars levelled when Kwame Steede, who had missed an earlier good chance, struck a powerful volley past Rangers keeper Sean Perinchief.
After the break Cougars went close to taking the lead when Mark Steede struck the crossbar with a diving header from a Korvon Tucker cross from the left wing.
At the other end Rangers were still threatening and grabbed a second when Trott flapped at Simmons’ free kick allowing Burrows to tap in his second of the evening.
McQuinn Burch was then presented with a gift of a chance to extend Rangers’ lead but somehow fired over with the goal at his mercy.
However, it wasn’t long before Keith Jennings’ side added a third when Simmons curled in a swirling free kick which seemed to go through teenage keeper Trott.
Cougrasm, who were reduced to ten men when Jesse Seymour was dismissed for a reckless challenge, then conceded a penalty when Tucker hauled down McQuinn Burch in the final minute.
Simmons stepped up to convert the kick and complete a miserable night for Cougars.

Defending Dudley Eve champions North Village topped their group with a win over Dandy Town at BAA Field last night.
Continuing their winning ways to the season, the Rams got goals from skipper Sammy DeGraff and Jason Lee, while Town’s sole strike came late on from Raymond Beach.
DeGraff opened the scoring on 15 minutes from the penalty spot before Lee doubled the lead six minutes later with a simple tap in from Lashun Dill’s cross.
Village were caught napping in the final minute n when an Aljame Zuill strike deflected off a defender and fell into the path of Beach who slotted home from close range.
Striker Lee was sent off late on for a second yellow card.
Although the defeat leaves Hornets on one point, they have finished second in the group via goal difference and advance to the next stage.
