Trinidad great Corneal to speak at BFA symposium

FIFA representative Alvin Corneal will be the guest speaker at the BFA?s Symposium on Saturday.

Trinidad legend Alvin Corneal will be the guest speaker at Bermuda Football Association’s (BFA) second Annual Symposium at CedarBridge Academy on Saturday. The theme of the symposium, which runs from 10am to 3.30pm, will be ‘Building Programmes’, with all local club coaches invited to attend.FIFA representative Corneal, 74, is widely regarding as one of the finest players the Soca Warriors have ever produced. He scored 69 goals in 119 appearances for his country before coaching the senior national team between 1979-1982 and 1990-1991.During his first stint in charge, Trinidad won their maiden Caribbean Nation’s Cup.“Alvin Corneal is no stranger to the Island,” said BFA player development committee chairman Mark Wade. “I believe he last visited the Island prior to the BFA appointing a technical director (in 2007).”The symposium will also feature a review of the recently completed domestic season, including the senior, youth and National Academy categories, as well as vendor’s fair from various local sports shops.Wade is hoping for a strong turnout from the local coaching fraternity and said the BFA were keen to listen to their opinions on how to improve the game.“It’s a chance for the coaches to sit down together and grow the game,” he said. “The atmosphere is always one of learning and it should be a good event for all who attend.“It’s good for relationship building and I’d like to see every single coach on the Island to come; that’s one area I would like us to improve on from last year.“Last year clubs sent one or two representatives, but this year we’re encouraging clubs to send all of their coaches we want to hear from them first hand.”For more details contact the BFA office on 295-2199 or e-mail irawlins@bermudafootball.com.
