PHC Lady Zebras 1 Dandy Stars 2Dandy Stars picked up their first league win of the season as they edged PHC Lady Zebras in a close affair at BFA Field at the weekend. After losing heavily to North Village Lady Rams in their opening Women’s League match the previous week, Stars were determined to bounce back against the winless Zebras. And they did just that with two quickly executed first-half tallies from the boots of Atiya Symonds and Rayni Maybury.Coyshea Fox replied for Lady Zebras after the break.Symonds opened the scoring for Dandy Stars when she tapped in Lakila Hart’s rebound. Fullback Hart dribbled from deep in her own half before unleashing a fierce drive from outside the box that rebounded off the ‘keeper and rolled invitingly to Symonds who finished.Things then quickly went from bad to worse for Lady Zebras as Maybury doubled Stars’ lead shortly after with a clinical finish.Lady Zebras dominated for long spells in the second half and the pressure eventually took told as Fox pulled one back to set up a nervous finish. However, Fox’s solo effort ultimately proved to be a consolation as Stars held on to the end.Dandy Stars coach Aaron Denkins said it was pleasing to get a first win in the bag.“It was good to get our first win and overall I think the result was good for women’s football because it was a good game. It wasn’t a blowout,” he said. “It was a match involving two of the younger teams showcasing the future of women’s football.”Denkins added: “We dominated the first half but PHC fought back hard in the second half. They were very resilient and showed a lot of tenacity.“They have a very young team but fought very hard all the way to the end, we barely held on. Our fitness was down and they wanted the game a little more than us.“PHC played true to form PHC football, all out attack. They were applying a lot of pressure on our backline.”The remaining women’s match between unbeaten Robin Hood FC Ladies and Lady Rams was postponed.Bermuda Football Association Youth Coordinator Vance Brown said: “The game wasn’t played and will be rescheduled.“The time of the game changed so teams were not able to field a team.”
