Nahki scores 17th goal of the season

Nahki Wells bagged his 17th goal of the season during Bradford City's 2-1 loss to Oxford United at Valley Parade on Saturday.

The Bermuda international, whose sensational scoring prowess has attracted interests from a hosts of Championship clubs, broke the deadlock in the 14th minute after capitalising on a defensive error.

However, City's lead was short-lived as United's Sean Rigg equalised four minutes later to send the teams into the dressing room at the half with a goal apiece.

Wells was eventually replaced by Alan Connell in the 79th minute.

City 'keeper Matt Duke denied United's Peter Leven a goal when he tipped the latter's header onto the bar.

However, Leven would not be denied scoring the game winner in the 90th minute from the penalty spot. City's Stephen Darby tripped up United's Alfie Potter in the box and Leven made good with his spotkick to complete United's come-from-behind win.

City are currently ninth in the League Two standings with 40 points from 27 matches.

Earlier in the week the Bantams defeated Premier Division Aston Villa 3-1 in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi -final at Valley Parade. Wells netted City's opening goal before unveiling a touching tribute to late friend Tumaini Steede whose memory he is playing in honour of this season.

City will travel to Villa Park for the return leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final on January 22 with a two-goal cushion.

Wells is bidding to become the third Bermudian behind Sean Goater and Kyle Lightbourne to play in a cup final at England's Wembley Stadium.

*Jonte Smith came on as a late sub in Crawley Town's 2-0 away loss to League One leaders Tranmere on Saturday.

The Bermudian striker entered the fray in the 76th minute after replacing Mike Jones with the Red Devils trailing 2-0 to first -half goals from David Amoo and Zoumana Bakayogo.

Crawley Town are currently ninth in the League One table with 41 points from 27 matches.

Smith earned a call to first team football after banging in 24 goals in 19 appearances during a loan spell with Ryman League team Metropolitan Police.
