Wells in Q&A session at former club

Bradford City’s Nahki Wells last night found time to make a special appearance at the first English club he signed for, leaving Eccleshill United's football chairman Adrian Benson delighted. The Bermuda international joined the Leeds-based the Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy (RIASA) in 2010, which is run by former Bantams winger Mark Ellis, who is also Eccleshill’s director of football.Benson, speaking to the Bradford Telegraph & Argus fbefore last night’s function, said: “We are very pleased indeed to be hosting an evening with Nahki, who will be doing a question-and-answer session with the audience. Mark will also be there, as will David Baldwin who will be co-ordinating the evening.“Nahki signed for us but I think he only made a few appearances because he was a very special talent and he soon went to Carlisle for a loan spell and then, as we all know, he impressed Bradford City in trials and was signed by them.“Obviously his career has gone from strength to strength and he is one of the players who has helped City to the Capital One Cup final and a Wembley appearance. He is not the only one with links to Eccleshill as James Hanson was here for a long time before he also reached the heights.“Mark was Terry Dolan’s assistant at Guiseley and it was on his say so that James moved there, and with Mark’s strong connections at Valley Parade he was instrumental in both players going on to City so he has had a massive influence in the careers of two players destined for Wembley.”Wells was the main guest at last night’s event where he was on hand to field questions from the floor, many of which were probably about the forthcoming appearance at the new Wembley, which will be City’s first at the venue and their first ever at the home of English football for a major cup final. The 22-year-old was on target in the Bantams’ 2-2 away draw with Fleetwood Town at Highbury Stadium last weekend. He scored a spectacular goal directly from a free kick to take his season tally to 18 in all competitions. It was City’s first game since their League Cup semi-final second-leg clash with Premier side Aston Villa at Villa Park on January 22.The Bantams won the two legged semi-final 4-3 on aggregate to become the first fourth tier side to reach a major English domestic cup final in 51 years.City will face Premier side Swansea in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium on February 24.En route to the final Wells and his team mates also claimed the Premier scalps of Wigan Athletic and Arsenal via penalty shoot-outs.
