Stars in surprise win over Rams

Dandy Stars Brown pulled off the season’s biggest upset during weekend Women’s Futsal League action at Dellwood Middle School Gym.Stars Brown handed reigning league champs and current leaders North Village Rams a 9-6 defeat to blow the championship race wide open.Zahra Gibbons netted a hat-trick for Stars Brown while Cheyra Bell and Jada Samuels scored twice and Leah Smith and Jahziyah Samuels added one apiece.Rams replied through a Leilanni Nesbeth hat-trick and additional tallies from Shuntae Todd (2) and Kyla Ramatar.Stars Brown led 5-2 at the half and withstood a second half fightback from Rams who slumped to their second loss of the season.Rams currently hold a three -point lead over nearest rivals PHC Zebras who had a bye on Saturday.Zebras are level on points with third placed Somerset Trojans who they lead on goal difference.Trojans kept their championship hopes alive courtesy of a 7-0 drubbing of lowly Young Men’s Social Club.Eva Frazzoni led Trojans’ charge with a hat-trick while Deshae Darrell and Sierra Fisher both added braces. Frazzoni is the league’s current leading goal scorer with 24 goals.Trojans led 6-0 at the half but only managed to score one goal after the break as Bluebirds put on a better defensive display.Dandy Stars Gold were the weekend’s biggest winners after thumping winless Hamilton Parish 12-2.Cleshaunay Darrell-Virgil led Stars Gold’s goalfeast with four goals, Dante Allen netted a hat-trick, Rayni Maybury and Atiya Symonds both scored twice while Kashintae Fox also got her name onto the scoresheet.Goalkeeper turn striker CarolAnne Wade accounted for Parish’s goals.Stars Gold led 5-0 at the half and never looked back.Women’s Futsal League action continues at Dellwood Middle School Gym on Saturday, beginning at 5pm.
