Wells picks up top scorer award

Nahki Wells

Nahki Wells found himself thick in contention for multiple honours during Bradford City’s end-of-season awards ceremony held earlier this week. The City striker finished third in the polls for the coveted Shipley Bantams Player of the Year Award which went to team skipper Gary Jones who bagged six awards in total to cap an outstanding season. He was also second in the polls behind Carl McHugh for the Bradford City Supporters Trust Under 25 Player of the Year Award. However, the former Dandy Town player would not be denied his moment of glory as he was presented with an award for being the Bantams leading goal scorer this past term. The 22-year old striker netted 25 goals in all competitions to reach the quota he had set out to achieve at the beginning of the 2012-13 campaign.Earlier this season Wells made history as the first Bermudian to play at the new Wembley Stadium during Bradford’s humbling 5-0 League Cup Final defeat against Premier side Swansea.Wells and fellow teammates will return to the iconic stadium on May 18 to face Northampton in the League Two play-off final for a place in League One next season. The Bantams reached the final after prevailing 5-4 on aggregate over Burton Albion in the two-legged play-off semi-final.Wells netted three goals during the home and away series with Burton, including a brace in Sunday’s second leg match at Pirelli Stadium.Three of the Bermuda international’s 25 goals this term have come against Northampton and he is confident he can hit the target again when the two sides clash for the right to gain promotion to League One later this month.“I’ve scored against Northampton already so I’m confident that I can do it again and help us get promoted,” Wells told the Telegraph and Argus. “I’ve got two more in my locker I’ll save them for Wembley.”
