BFA to honour Wells during tour match

Bradford City’s star striker Nahki Wells will be honoured during Bermuda’s international friendly with England ‘C’ at the National Sports Centre (NSC) next Tuesday.Bermuda Football Association (BFA) First Vice-President Cal Blankendal said: ”The Bermuda Football Association will recognise his outstanding and historical achievements with Bradford FC on June 4 at the National Sports Centre.“We look forward to Bermuda supporting our national team and join in recognising Nahki Wells for his success with Bradford and for being an outstanding ambassador for Bermuda.”As well as leading the Bantams scoring with 26 goals this past season, Wells achieved two milestones at Wembley Stadium. He became the first Bermudian to play in the new stadium during City’s League Cup final loss to Premier side Swansea in February and earlier this month became the first local footballer to score at the iconic venue in his team’s League Two play-off final victory over Northampton Town.“There are quite a number of young individuals who look up to Nahki here and also in Bradford,” added Blankendal. “The association recognise him for being an outstanding individual for putting Bermuda back on the map and also for creating history for Bermuda.”Wells, who celebrates his 23rd birthday tomorrow, has not been included in Bermuda’s 18-member squad to face England ‘C’.Asked was he disappointed that the star striker won’t be playing, Blankendal replied: “Disappointed as a spectator, yes. But having played so many matches (64) and putting your body through a rigorous season he has much more knowledge about his game and physical ability than the average person in Bermuda.”
