Bermuda U15s demolish US Virgin Islands

Bermuda 8 USVI 0Bermuda thrashed US Virgin Islands (USVI) at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in the Cayman Islands on Tuesday to get their Concacaf Under-15 Championships campaign off to a flying start.Ahria Simons and Oneko Lowe each bagged braces while Knory Scott, Osagi Bascome, Jai-Zel Smith DeShields and an own goal completed the Island’s emphatic victory.Bermuda dominated the early stages of the match but had nothing to show for it as they lacked decisive touch in the attacking third of the pitch.Scott had the ball in the back of the net only to see his effort flagged for offside.Simons eventually broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when he followed up on a Scott rebound off the bar and slotted home after the USVI defence failed to clear the ball to safety. An own goal doubled Bermuda’s lead two minutes later when a defender sliced Simons’ low cross into his own net.DeShields flicked Lowe’s cross past the USVI keeper to make it 3-0 in the 23rd minute before Simons scored his second and Bermuda’s fourth to finish off a good build up.Lowe scored his first and Bermuda’s fifth when his ambitious long range effort slipped through the keeper’s grasp in the slippery conditions brought on by torrential downpours.Scott finally got his name on the scoresheet when he chipped the ball over the advancing ‘keeper after sub Aaron Burgess played him through.Things continued to get worse for Bermuda’s opponents who were reduced to ten men after they had a player sent off for a dangerous tackle on Bascome.Diminutive left back Lowe rifled the ball into the roof of the net in the 55th minute to complete his brace and extend his team’s lead to 6-0 after the USVI defence were again punished for failing to clear their lines.Bascome then rounded off the scoring with a firm, low shot that gave the ‘keeper absolutely no chance.Bermuda: Y Smith-Davis, A Simons, J Lambe, A Lewis, O Lowe, J Symonds, J Smith DeShields (A Burgess, 45 mins), L Millet (J Greene, 45 mins), J Bell (T Boyles, 50 mins), K Scott, O Bascome.
