Wells on shortlist for League Award

Hotshot Nahki Wells is among those in contention for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Award for August following his remarkable early season scoring spree.Bradford City’s Bermudian striker has netted six goals already this term, including five in the league where he is joint top marksman along with Coventry City’s Callum Wilson who was also nominated for the player of the month award.After netting on the opening day of the 2013-14 campaign at Bristol City, Wells followed that up with strikes against his former club Carlisle United and Port Vale before his match-winning brace against Sheffield United sealed a memorable Yorkshire derby triumph for the Bantams.The former Dandy Town player’s brace against the Blades at the Coral Windows Stadium saw him become the first Bantams player to score in eight consecutive games, equalling the club record set by Derek Stokes between December 1959 and February 1960.Wells’ eight-game scoring streak ended during the Bantams 1-1 draw at Stevenage at the weekend.Leyton Orient’s Romain Vincelot and Colchester’s Magnus Okuonghae (Colchester) are the remaining players on the shortlist for the player of the month award that will be announced tomorrow.Wells, 23, was an unused sub in City’s humiliating 5-0 away defeat at the hands of League Two strugglers Hartlepool in the opening round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.
