Premier to play in charity football match
Premier Craig Cannonier and Opposition Leader Marc Bean will put politics aside to play on the same team for a good cause when the second Nelson Bascome Focus Trophy charity football match is held next Saturday at the National Sports Centre.
Two matches are scheduled for the day, starting at 4pm and 6pm, with proceeds raised going to Focus Counselling, a charity close to the former politician's heart.
Bascome died of a heart attack in 2009 and last year the charity match was launched.
The opening match on September 14 will see the Bermuda Under-16 national team, many of whom represented Bermuda at the inaugural CONCACAF Under-15 championships in Cayman Island where they reached the semi-finals, playing against United FC Under-16s.
Also donning their football foots will be several Government officials and some of the Island's former football stars, such as Garrett (Punchy) Dill, Ralph (Gumbo) Bean, Oscar Samuels and John Barry Nusum.
The Premier's team will also include Wayne Furbert, Michael Dunkley and magistrate Juan Wolffe.
