Nahki Wells made his first appearance for Bradford City in nearly a month during the Bantams’ 1-2 home loss to Wolves at Valley Parade on Saturday.

The Bermudian striker had missed his team’s previous four games due to ankle injury.

Wells came on as a half-time sub, replacing Italian Raffaele De Vita who smashed home his own rebound from a set piece to give the hosts the lead in the 13th minute.

De Vita was substituted because of tightness in his hamstring.

Bermuda International Wells immediately made an impact on proceedings and was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet in the closing minutes of the match as the Bantams, trailing by a single goal, pressed for an equaliser.

Wells was denied on three occasions by Wolves shot-stopper Carl Ikeme.

He was first denied by the ‘keeper who courageously blocked the ball at the striker’s feet and then repelled two further efforts from the latter to protect the visitors’ slim lead.

After the match Bantams’ manager, Phil Parkinson, hailed Wells’ performance in his first match back from injury.

“Nahki looked a threat today and his partnership back with James (Hanson) again looked like it could get us a goal,” he commented on the club’s website.

Wells, 23, was also involved in a build up that led to a controversial call from the referee midway through the second half.

The former Dandy Town man laid on a pass in the box for teammate Kyel Reid who went to ground attempting to round the ‘keeper as he dived at his feet.

Much to the home crowd’s astonishment, the referee booked Reid for diving instead of awarding the Bantams a penalty.

James Henry and Richard Stearman were on target for Wolves who leapfrogged Peterborough to move into second in the league table.

Wells, who has banged in nine goals for the Bantams already this term, damaged ligaments in his left ankle challenging for the ball during his team’s 2-1 home win over Shrewsbury Town on September 28.

Bradford are currently sixth in the League One standings with 22 points and are winless in their last four league outings.
