PHC held up

Defending champions PHC were forced to put their celebrations on hold after squandering an opportunity to clinch a second successive Women’s Futsal League title at the weekend.

For the first time this season, the leaders dropped points after being held to a 4-4 draw by Somerset at Warwick Academy Gym on Saturday.

Somerset made life extremely difficult for the champions throughout an exciting contest and were unfortunate not to come away with the victory that their performance deserved.

Shauntae Todd scored a hat-trick for Somerset and Sierra Fisher accounted for the west-enders’ other goal. PHC replied with two goals apiece from Jessica Furtado and Aaliyah Nolan.

In another high-scoring affair, Dandy Stars outscored Footy Force Stars 7-3 to keep their slim league title hopes alive.

College student Rayni Maybury led the charge for Dandy Stars with four goals. Kyla Ramatar added a brace and Cleshaunay Darrell-Virgil the other. Leah Smith, Zahra Gibbons and LeiLanni Nesbeth were on target for Footy Force.

To overhaul PHC and win the league title, Dandy Stars must beat the leaders in their next match and then hope PHC lose their final game of the season.

In last weekend’s remaining match, Hamilton Parish thrashed winless Young Men’s Social Club 5-1. Kaelah Ming led the way for Parish with four goals and Juliette Basden added one. Social Club replied through Kyanne Scott-Fishenden.
