Parish also won the under-12 title

Hamilton Parish had plenty to cheer about at Goose Gosling Field last Saturday.

Parish captured two of the three titles up for grabs during the finals of the second annual Powerade Champions League.

Parish had things all their own way in a 4-1 defeat against host side BAA Green in the under-eight final.

They took a commanding 3-0 lead by the interval and never looked back.

Parish extended their lead in the second half before BAA grabbed a late consolation.

Parish then completed an impressive cup-winning double after defeating Dandy Town 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out in the under-12 final after both teams remained deadlocked at the of regulation time in an evenly fought contest.

In the remaining under-10 final, North Village came from behind to beat BAA Green 2-1.

BAA led with five minutes remaining in the match.

But Village struck twice in the closing minutes to complete a remarkable comeback.

The Powerade Champions League, that began on April 19, featured three age groups. Each group consisted of eight teams divided into two groups of four.

The winners of each group during the round robin phase automatically qualified for the semi-finals, while the second team from group A played the third team from group B and vice versa in the quarter-finals to determine the remaining semi-finalists.

In this year’s competition, new champions were crowned in each age group.

Summing up last Saturday’s finals, Kenny Thompson, the BAA director of football, said: “The final day of the Powerade Champions League was a great spectacle. All three matches were played in the spirit of competition, fair play and respect with players, coaches and fans playing positive roles in this regard.

“The entire atmosphere that we created is in tune with elements of the Champions League that the players relate to on television such as walking out to the Champions League anthem, a unique looking trophy, stage and media board for the awards ceremony immediately after each match.”
