Robinson strikes twice

Double salvo: Robinson

PHC Zebras 2

St George’s Colts 1

PHC Zebras went top of the table on goal difference after defeating a determined St George’s Colts at Southampton Oval yesterday.

Cecoy Robinson, the PHC captain, struck either side of the interval to put to rest any ambitions of a Colts upset.

After enjoying greater possession in the first half, Robinson was on the tailend of some nifty passing between Idress Sharrieff and Shakir Smith before blasting past the stranded Zeko Burgess, the Colts goalkeeper, in the 31st minute.

St George’s displayed their own brand of attacking football, only to be repelled repeatedly by a stifling PHC defence that was stingy on the day.

A handball by Damon Darrell, the Colts defender, gifted a penalty to PHC, which was dispatched by Robinson in the 59th minute.

In the 74th minute, Colts striker Jarreau Hayward nodded past a sea of bodies in a goalmouth scramble to put his side back into contention.

From the 75th minute, Colts changed their tactics in an attempt to slow down a marauding Zebras strike force in an attempt to level the score.

Colts had red cards late on with Jelani Carlington and Phil Anderson both receiving their marching orders.

In Saturday night’s game, Flanagan’s Onions drew 1-1 against Southampton Rangers at Goose Gosling Field.

Pete Robey scored the opening goal for Onions after five minutes. Keedai Astwood equalised in the 35th minute for Rangers.
