Lewis set for Hall of Fame

Eversley “Bo” Lewis has been inducted into the Hamilton Ontario Soccer Hall of Fame.

Lewis received the honour for his outstanding exploits during stints with Hamilton Steelers of the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League and Canadian National Soccer League side Toronto Hungaria in the 1960s and 1970s.

Lewis, the great uncle of Young Men’s Social Club and Bermuda forward Zeiko Lewis, will be inducted into the Hamilton Ontario Soccer Hall of Fame during a ceremony next spring.

Lewis, who returned home last month to celebrate his 70th birthday with family and friends, started his career with Young Men’s Social Club.

At the age of 17 Lewis, who now lives in Canada, made the leap from the amateur to professional game after he was signed by Aberdeen in 1961.

The former winger only made appearances for Aberdeen’s reserves during a two-year stint at the Scottish club.

A year later Lewis joined the Hamilton Steelers in the Eastern Canada Professional Soccer League where he remained for two seasons before the league folded in 1966.

That same year Lewis joined the Boston Tigers of the American Soccer League where he spent one season.

In the Seventies, Lewis resurfaced in the National Soccer League where he enjoyed a successful spell playing semi-professionally with Toronto Hungaria, winning cup and MVP honours.

News of Lewis’s induction into the Hamilton Ontario Hall of Fame arrives just days after his childhood club, Social Club, reached the First Division Shield final after beating defending champions Somerset Eagles in the semi-finals at Wellington Oval on Boxing Day.

Lewis’s great nephew Zeiko netted two goals and set up two others.

Social Club will face Devonshire Colts in the First Division Shield final on New Year’s Day at the National Sports Centre.

Also on New Year’s Day, Robin Hood will be looking for their first major piece of silverware when they take on Dandy Town Hornets at the National Sports Centre in the Friendship Trophy final.
