PHC fight back for victory

Big impact: PHC captain Robinson

Robin Hood 1

PHC Zebras 2

A late strike from Khamisi Lightbourne earned ten-man PHC Zebras a hard-fought victory over Robin Hood in the Premier Division at a wet and windy Goose Gosling Field last night.

Lightbourne, the PHC striker, struck in the 87th minute with a well-taken finish to send the visiting bench, who had watched their team comeback from a goal down, into raptures.

It was an impressive fight back from Zebras who were reduced to ten men when defender Mikey Lambe was dismissed early in the second half for a second yellow card.

Striker Antwan Russell had missed two good chances before Hood took the lead through midfielder Tevahn Tyrell in the 40th minute, when he slid the ball home after a Tre Dill knock down.

Other than a strike from distance that flew wide by Cecoy Robinson, the PHC captain, the visiting side created very little in the first half but strangely seemed to improve once they went a man down.

It was Robinson who pulled his side level in the 75th minute when he slammed the ball past Timmy Figureido, the experienced Hood goalkeeper, after the home side had failed to clear their lines.

Sensing that Hood seemed content with a share of the spoils at this point, PHC poured bodies forward during the late stages in pursuit of a winner and found it when Lightbourne curled the ball into the top corner.

Robinson, who created the winner with a neat through ball, admitted that his team were delighted to build on their 6-1 thrashing St David’s 6-1 in their FA Cup first-round replay last week.

“It was a hard-fought win, especially after going down to ten men at half-time,” Robinson said.

“We had to put the work in, but once we scored we got our belief again and we just kept pushing forward and got our rewards.”

He added: “I was delighted to finally get on the scoresheet again and set up Khamisi for the second.

“It was important to return to winning ways after losing to Village in the league in our first game back at PHC Stadium, but beating St David’s in the week gave us a lift and now we just have to push on.”
