Professional debut: Simons (Photo by Akil Simmons)

Jonté Smith, the Bermuda striker, scored his first goal for English non-League side Gloucester City in FA Cup second-round qualifying tie at home to ten-man Kidlington on Saturday.

Smith struck a brilliant free kick from 35 yards into the top corner and also had an earlier effort disallowed, as well as missing a close-range header.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season at Norway’s Floy IL, was substituted in the 71st minute.

Meanwhile, Rai Simons made his professional debut, coming on as a second-half substitute in Chesterfield’s 2-1 defeat at home to Burton Albion in the Sky Bet League One on Saturday.

Simons, 19, came on in the 66th minute against the league leaders who grabbed the points with a last-minute winner.

Simons’s Bermuda team-mate, Reggie Lambe, also came on in the second half in Mansfield Town’s 0-0 at home against Plymouth Argyle in League Two.

Freddy Hall’s relegation-threatened Limerick lost their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division match against Dundalk 3-1 at home.

Limerick had been unbeaten in seven matches prior to facing Saturday’s opponents.
