Nathan Trott has been chosen to attend an England goalkeeping camp with specialist coaches Martin Thomas and Simon Smith.

The West Ham Academy player is among eight goalkeepers who have been selected to take part in the two-day camp, which starts next Wednesday at the Leigh Sports Village in Lancashire.

Thomas, the England Under-21 goalkeeping coach, and Smith, the England goalkeeping coach, will be joined by Tim Dittmer, who recently joined the English Football Association from Manchester City as goalkeeping coach educator.

A total of 18 goalkeepers will work in two separate regional camps, with players eligible for England Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 all in attendance.

Trott earned a first call-up to the under-19 squad for two international friendlies against Croatia and Bulgaria. However, he was ruled out after injuring his thumb while training with his club.

The former BAA and Bermuda Under-17 player took part in a fun penalty shoot-out in front crowd of 57,000, also involving young West Ham season-ticket holders, during half-time of West Ham’s Premier League match at home to Manchester United on Monday.

The son of former St George’s Colts goalkeeper Dwayne Trott signed an initial 2½-year deal with West Ham 12 months ago, which has since been extended until 2020.

He has also trained with West Ham’s first team at the club’s Rush Green training ground.

The 18-year-old has made nine appearances this season for West Ham’s Premier League 2 side, despite missing a considerable chunk of the first half of the season through injury. He has also turned out for the club’s Under 18 side twice.

Trott first caught the eye of the West Ham coaching staff during trials in the summer of 2015, which led to him putting pen to an initial deal.

Chris Woods, West Ham’s first-team goalkeeping coach and former England goalkeeper, who has worked with Trott several times this season, believes the player has a bright future at the Premier League club.

“The lad’s got great potential and it’s so difficult to find good, young goalkeepers,” said Woods, who won 43 England caps in the Eighties and Nineties. “Nathan ticks all the boxes.

“He’s the type of lad who wants to listen and wants to do well and he’s really a joy to work with.”
