Eve shines in Ilkeston defeat

Catching the eye: Eve has stood out for Ilkeston since joining the Derbyshire club

Dale Eve continued his impressive run of form with his second successive man-of-the-match performance since joining English non-League side Ilkeston.

Eve reeled off a string of saves in against Blyth Spartans at the weekend but could not prevent his side suffering a 5-0 home defeat to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League leaders.

Also starting for Ilkeston were debutant Danté Leverock, the Bermuda defender, while forward Tevahn Tyrell came on as a second-half substitute.

Jarrett Rivers scored twice for Blyth with Robbie Dale, Adam Wrightson and Dan Maguire also finding the net in the emphatic win.

Ilkeston are 24th in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League — the seventh tier of English football — with 18 points from 28 games.

Other Bermudians at the Derbyshire club are defender Jaylon Bather, forward David Jones Jr, while forward Enrique Russell and midfielders Paul Douglas and J’Nai Butterfield-Steede are play for the club’s Academy team.

All of the players live together in an apartment partially funded by Paul Scope, the former Bermuda assistant coach and Bermuda Hogges owner, who forged a link between Ilkeston and the island in 2013.

Also living with the players is Jahnai Raynor, a 30-year-old former Bermuda and PHC Zebras defender, who is gaining coaching experience at Ilkeston while studying for his badges.

Eve, who made his debut in a 2-1 defeat away to Barwell, is looking for a route back into League Football after being released by Premier League side Stoke City 12 months ago.

The 21-year-old spent the past few months playing for Dandy Town in the Premier Division, having previously had a loan spell at Forest Green Rovers in the Vanarama National League at the end of last season.
