England call up Trott for Under-19 Euros

Trott will be heading to Georgia with Keith Downing’s squad

Nathan Trott has been called up to the England Under-19 squad for the upcoming European Championship finals in Georgia.

The Bermudian goalkeeper will join up with Keith Downing’s squad next week when they head to Murcia, Spain, for a six-day training camp. The team will then return to St George’s Park before flying out to Tbilisi, Georgia, for the finals which begin on July 2.

Trott, 18, was selected to the squad for the three Elite Round qualifiers in March, but had to watch from the sidelines. Now he will be pushing for a starting spot in the first group fixture against Bulgaria on July 3.

“It’s a great feeling to get a call-up again,” Trott said on the West Ham website. “I’ve had a really good season and it’s always an honour when you get a call-up to play for England.

“It’s been a long wait to get my first cap and hopefully during this camp for the Euros, I can impress the coach enough for me to get a start.”

Trott was first called into the England Under-19 set-up last October for the friendly match against Croatia, but had to withdraw because of a thumb injury he sustained while training with the squad.

England face Holland three days after taking on Bulgaria before completing group B against Germany on July 9.
