Trott forced to withdraw from England Under-20

Shoulder injury: Nathan Trott will miss the game against Germany next week

Nathan Trott has been forced to withdraw from the England Under-20 squad for their international friendly away to Germany next week.

The Bermudian goalkeeper was originally named in coach Keith Downing’s 18-member squad for the match at the Stadion Zwickau in Eastern Germany on next Tuesday, but has been ruled because of a shoulder injury.

Trott was injured playing for West Ham United Under-23 in their Checkatrade Trophy game away to Bristol City on October 31, which they won 3-1.

Will Mannion, of Hull City, has been drafted in as a replacement for Trott who was a member of England’s European Under-19 Championship winning squad in the summer.

The former BAA player made his England Under-20 debut in a 3-0 win away to Holland in September and also kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 victory against Czech Republic last month.

Bournemouth’s Aaron Ramsdale is the other goalkeeper named in England’s party.

Trott and his West Ham team-mates were forced to chase the game in their Checkatrade Trophy match against City, who took the lead after only 25 seconds through a Tom Nichols header.

However, that was as good as it got for City as West Ham scored three unanswered goals to complete an impressive fightback.

Toni Martínez, who joined West Ham from La Liga side Valencia last year, equalised from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute after team-mate Ben Johnson was pulled down in the area.

Norwegian midfielder Martin Samuelsen then put West Ham ahead in the 50th minute with a powerful shot from inside the penalty area before Spaniard Martínez added an insurance strike and his second of the match in the 76th minute.

Trott, who has established himself as the No 1 for the West Ham Under-23 side, signed an initial 2½-year deal with the East London club in January 2016, which has since been extended until 2020.

He has also been named in West Ham’s first-team squad for this season.
