Lewis ready for next non-League challenge

New colours: Amar Lewis shows off his Brightlingsea shirt

Amar Lewis, the former Dandy Town midfielder, is set for his next challenge after signing for English non-League side Brightlingsea Regent.

The 19-year-old has joined the Bostik League Premier Division side after impressing for Stowmarket Town in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, where he scored eight goals in 36 appearances last season.

Lewis, a former West Ham United Academy trialist, represented Bermuda Under-20s at the Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Costa Rica in February.

Tom Rothery, the Regent manager, believes Lewis’s versatility will be a major asset for the Essex outfit, who play in the seventh tier of the English game.

“Amar is another young player with a good pedigree; he was scouted by West Ham and Chelsea when playing in Bermuda and has also spent time with Barnet since moving to England,” Rothery said.

“He had a good season at Stowmarket last season and is a very energetic midfielder who again can play a number of positions. I think he will add more competition to the squad and, coming up to 20 years of age, he’s another player that hopefully we can mould and develop.”
