Bermuda suffer defeat to Trinidad

Bermuda 0 Trinidad 3

Bermuda hopes of qualifying for the Concacaf Women's Championship Qualifier went up in smoke after they lost to Trinidad & Tobago at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, today.

A brace from Kennya Cordner and a strike from Kayla Taylor condemned Bermuda to defeat, as Trinidad, Cuba and group winners Jamaica advance to the championship finals in the United States next month.

Trinidad started brightly and took an early lead when Taylor capitalised on some good build-up play.

Requiring a win to keep their qualifying hopes alive, Bermuda forced Trinidad on the back foot but were unable to capitalise on their ascendancy. Most of Bermuda's good work was not translated into scoring chances.

Trinidad regained control towards the end of the first half and nearly got a second before the break.

However, they did not have to wait long to double their lead as Cordner capitalised on a mazy run by Taylor to slam home Trinidad's second from 12 yards early in the second period.

Trinidad continued to create chances but Cordner and Taylor were both wasteful.

Bermuda continued to show fight and Taznae Fubler had a great chance but shot straight at Trinidad goalkeeper Saundra Baron.

Robinson's side had a few half chances but never really troubled Baron.

Cordner scored Trinidad's third with a wonderful curling shot from the edge of the area, beating Pond in Bermuda's goal, who made several fine saves to keep her team in the game.

Trinidad join Jamaica and Cuba in the final round.
