Somerset Trojans 2 Dandy Town 2

Somerset Trojans and Dandy Town settled for a point a piece after playing out a 2-2 draw at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

Town started the game brightly and were up within three minutes when Kwame Steede popped up at the back post to steer home a diagonal ball from K’Wonde Lathan.

The lead did not last very long as Lathan attempted to head clear an inswinging cross from Damon Swan but ended up finding the bottom corner of his own net.

The goal shifted the momentum in Somerset’s favour and in the fifteenth minute, the home side took the lead courtesy of another inswinging free kick from Swan.

This time, the goalkeeper was beaten at the near post as the ball went through a maze of players untouched, leaving Trevin Ming with the simple task of tapping into any empty net from two yards.

Somerset continued to find openings, and moments later, should have extended their lead when Wainwright found himself inside the box with time and space. But the young striker was unable to find the target.

Town were still finding success with the diagonal ball over the top and Lathan and Steede almost linked up in similar fashion just before the half, but on this occasion Steed’s effort went just wide of the far post.

Town started the second half, much like the first, and once again had the ball in the back of the net within five minutes. Angelo Simmons was given too much time on the edge of the box and left the goalkeeper with no chance as his cleanly struck effort on the turn flew into the top corner of the goal.

The visiting side were now in control of the match and had a number of opportunities to retake the lead. Steede would first watch as his flick from a Damon Ming cross bounced off the far post, and then should have done better with his effort that went wide after beating the offside trap.

Somerset had the last chance of the game, when substitute Zaire Smith was first to a long ball, but could not find the right finish, as his attempted lob went high and wide of the target.
