St George’s continue promotion march

Ricardo Ponte scored in Vasco's win

St George’s continued their unbeaten run towards promotion when they beat bottom team Ireland Rangers 4-0 at Wellington Oval to make it 28 points from ten matches.

The East Enders had to wait until midway through the second half before breaking the deadlock when substitute Macai Simmons netted in the 63rd minute.

Three goals in the final ten minutes finally broke down a stubborn Ireland Rangers with David Signor scoring twice, in the 80th and 85th minutes, and Alleyne Francis adding the fourth in the 90th.

The table remains unchanged with Devonshire Colts six points behind St George’s after a 2-0 win over Flanagan’s Onions while Vasco da Gama, third, beat Young Men’s Social Club 4-2.

They remain two points behind Devonshire Colts. Jibri Salaam opened the scoring for Colts in the seventh minute before Chemari Henry added the second in the 54th at Devonshire Recreation Club.

At Bernard Park, Vasco came from a goal down to take all three points against Social Club who netted in the tenth minute through Ramon Smith.

Ricardo Ponte equalised a minute later before two more unanswered goals in the 26th and 59th minutes through Ryan Smith and Kevin Cabral gave Vasco a 3-1 ahead.

N’zyah Edwards pulled one back for Social Club in the 67th minute before Jordan Watts restored Vasco’s two-goal lead in the 77th minute.

Meanwhile, Wolves and Hamilton Parish drew 0-0 at Garrison Field where Wolves’ Sergio Richardson was sent off in the 82nd minute for foul and abusive language directed at an official.
