Nahki Wells has joined Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City for £4 million on a 3½-year deal from Burnley.

The Bermuda striker was unveiled at Ashton Gate last night after completing a medical earlier in the day.

Wells, 29, was recalled from his loan spell at Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers earlier this week by Burnley as they looked to sell the forward before January transfer window closes today.

“Nahki is a player with so much talent and he is a proven goalscorer at this level,” Lee Johnson, the City manager, told the club website. “I have spoken before of our ability to create a lot of chances and I think Nahki will help us in terms of that clinical edge which we have needed at times.

“I'm really looking forward to working with him and I think he will be a great fit in our squad, as we set our sights on a strong finish with 18 matches left.”

Wells, who made ten substitute appearances for Burnley in the Premier League in 2017-18 after joining them from Huddersfield Town for £5 million at the start of that season, said he is excited to join a club “moving in the right direction”.

“I'm excited to have finally got it over the line; it's been a bit of a roller coaster few days and delighted to be here now ready to start the new journey,” Wells said.

“Everything here is fantastic, the club, the facility, the stadium. Everything looks like it's moving in the right direction and it's something I'm looking forward to embracing very soon.”

Wells scored 15 goals in all competitions at QPR this season and now hopes to continue his prolific form at City.

“I'm in a good run of form at the moment,” he added. “I've been scoring goals of recent and I'm excited to try and carry on that form to help this club move in the direction that they want to. I'm just a striker that's hungry to score goals and do well.

“I'm willing to work hard for the team, create and be among the attacking play, so that's me as a player who's always going to give a hundred and try to do what's right for the team.

“I've always been known for scoring goals and trying to be in the right place at the right time and if the chances are being created then I definitely know I will be able to score them.

“We have a lot of creative players here who create chances after chance and I'm just looking forward to being on the end of all of that.”

Wells is the second Bermudian to join City after Shaun Goater, who netted 45 goals in 81 appearances for the club from 1996 to 1998.

He could make his debut for City, who are sixth in the table, against his former club QPR tomorrow at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

“It's a bit of an odd one, of course, to be playing against your former team a few days later, but that's football of course,” Wells added.

“I've joined for the right reasons and looking forward to the future and the ambitions of the club moving forward and, unfortunately, QPR are the first stop.

“I will be back to a familiar ground and familiar faces, but it's still the same desires and I'm sure there will be a lot of talk and banter about the weekend.

“But, more importantly, it's about us going there trying to get the right result and trying to win, and that's going to be my sole aim.”

Mark Ashton, the City chief executive, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Nahki Wells to Bristol City, which is a really exciting transfer for us.

“Nahki is a player we have watched for a long time and we know just how talented he is with a goalscoring record that really does speak for itself.

“Nahki brings extra quality to Lee's attacking options and that is vital as we push on in this second half of the season.”
