PHC captain Cecoy Robinson

Somerset Trojans 0 PHC Zebras 3Robinson 66PHC Zebras continued their strong winning run as they thrashed Somerset Trojans at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday. The visiting side were ahead inside 40 seconds as Marco Warren skipped past a defender before firing past Trojans goalkeeper Dequan Crockwell.PHC dominated the midfield battle early on, with the home side giving the ball away on several occasions.Young midfielder Jaiden Ratteray-Smith was booked for a clumsy challenge midway through the first half.Trojans finally created their first chance, but captain Leo Burgess had a shot blocked at the far post by Warren. Both teams cancelled each other out as the first half came to an end with the visiting side narrowly ahead.PHC defender Naeem Griffith was replaced at half-time by Diondre Dowling because of an apparent shoulder injury. The second half started exactly as the first, with the visiting side controlling the play.Keishen Bean came close to doubling their lead within a minute of the restart, but his shot was deflected by left-back Richard Quinn. The defending Premier Division champions doubled their lead in the 48th minute with a beautiful solo goal.Tre Ming picked up the ball just inside the opposition half, beat three defenders, and beat Crockwell at his near post.Trojans had a chance to half the deficit just after the hour mark, but Jaz Ratteray-Smith skied his shot. That was the last contribution for Jaz, as he was replaced by Zaire Smith.PHC got the insurance third goal midway through the half. Following a corner, captain Cecoy Robinson cut inside and drove his shot low past Crockwell. At this stage, Trojans had no answer for the visiting side’s tempo and movement. Ming fashioned another chance to complete a resounding win, but Crockwell acrobatically dove to his left to keep his powerful shot out.Trojans tried to improve their standing on the match with some fresh legs. With 15 minutes remaining, midfielder Makai Joell came off for experienced playmaker Keith Jennings. Both sides used their remaining substitutes as the match came to a tame conclusion.Bean, who was influential all day, had his strong performance tarnished when he was booked for a strong challenge on substitute D’Andre Wainwright.Captain Robinson was pleased with his team’s performance.“We put in a good shift today,” the Bermuda forward said. “I am happy with the clean sheet also.”The goalscorer said they need to work on collective defence.“They [Trojans] had some half-chances,” he added. “We must cut those out if possible.”The Zebras do not want to look too far ahead, says Robinson. “We are taking it one game at a time,” he concluded. “We will see what happens at the end of the season.”The visiting side are now just three points behind third-place Dandy Town, while Trojans are right in the middle of a relegation scrap on 13 points.SCORERSPHC Zebras: Warren 1, Ming 48, Robinson 66TEAMSSomerset Trojans (4-4-2): D Crockwell — R Quinn, D Swan, T Ming, Jaiden Ratteray-Smith — J Butterfield (sub: D Wainwright 78 min), M Joell (sub: K Jennings 74), Jaz Ratteray-Smith (sub: Z Smith 63), C Durham — L Burgess, D Darrell.
