Two unlikely players are leading the scoring charts in the Premier Division and First Division after the first month of the season.

Enrique Russell, who is getting his chance to lead the attack in a new-look PHC team under new coach Winston Trott Jr, is taking his chances with five league goals in the team’s first three games — and six overall.

Russell, who comes from a famous footballing family as the great-grandson of Earl “Townsey” Russell, netted his first hat-trick for the first team when he scored all the goals in the 3-1 win over Somerset Eagles on Sunday.

It was PHC’s first win of the season in the league and cup, though Russell had already scored three goals prior.

The 20-year-old netted one in the Dudley Eve Trophy group stage, in a 3-3 draw with Dandy Town when he also missed a penalty, and then scored both goals in the 2-2 league draw with Devonshire Colts on October 2.

“We have X-Roads next week, so hopefully we can build on that and push for another three points,” Russell said after Sunday’s win.

Just behind Russell in the scoring is North Village’s Jaizel Smith-DeShields with four goals, while Tomiko Goater, of Robin Hood, and Drewonde Bascome, of Devonshire Cougars, have three each. Goater scored his three goals in the big win over PHC on September 27, while Bascome scored the game’s only goal against St George’s on Sunday to go with his two goals in the 5-1 win over Somerset Eagles the previous weekend.

In the First Division, Jordan Outerbridge leads the way with seven goals from just two games, four against Vasco in the 8-1 win and three in the 5-1 win over Young Men’s Social Club. Already the 24-year-old Outerbridge, who was recently living in Britain, is setting his sights on the Golden Boot award.

He came back recently for his grandmother’s funeral and decided to stay, proving to be one of the best signings of the summer, with Hamilton Parish already looking a strong bet for promotion.

Parish are level on six points with Boulevard but have a game in hand after a bye last weekend, when Boulevard suffered their first loss of the season, 1-0 to St David’s.

In the Premier Division, Robin Hood lead North Village at the top of the table on goal difference, with Devonshire Cougars and Dandy Town just a point behind. Town have a game in hand.

Robin Hood are the division’s top scorers with 14 goals from only four games. Their 6-1 win over PHC is the division’s biggest win thus far.

At the other end of the table, Somerset Eagles are anchored at the bottom after three straight losses. Devonshire Colts and X-Roads are also still seeking their first win of the season.

All three have tough matches on paper, with Eagles away to Dandy Town, Colts at home to Southampton Rangers at Police Field and X-Roads taking on the Zebras at home.
