Reggie Lambe on target as Stowmarket Town held to a draw

Reggie Lambe

Reggie Lambe scored his ninth goal of the season as he and his Stowmarket Town team-mates were held to a draw away to Coggeshall Town in the Isthmian League North on Monday.

Ross Wall put the hosts in front in the second minute before Town hit back either side of the interval through Emmanuel Osei-Owusu and Lambe to surge ahead.

However, the visitors were unable to maintain their advantage as Jack Hayes grabbed an equaliser to rescue a point for the hosts.

The match was Town’s second in three days having beaten Dereham Town 3-1 at home on Saturday to clinch their place in the promotion play-off.

Midfielder Evan Collard headed home defender Chris Casement’s cross to give the hosts the lead at Green Meadows in the 49th minute.

However, the visiting team equalised in the 78th minute in similar fashion through defender Mathew Castellan’s header from midfielder Adam Hipperson’s free-kick.

Town pressed on and eventually grabbed what proved to be the winner four minutes from time, with Lambe having a hand in the goal.

The Bermuda midfielder whipped in a free-kick which substitute Craig Parker nodded home.

Striker Luke Brown then latched on to a through-pass and slotted past the goalkeeper with a calm finish in the 90th minute to secure Town’s place in the play-off.

The match marked Lambe’s compatriot Willie Clemons’s return to Town’s line-up after serving a two-game suspension.

The Bermuda forward started and saw 71 minutes of action on the pitch until being replaced by goal scorer Parker.

Town are third in the league standings two points behind second-place Canvey Island and six adrift of leaders Aveley, who clinched the league title and automatic promotion with a 4-0 home win over Tilbury yesterday.
