Nahki Wells on target to sink former club Huddersfield
Nahki Wells scored against his former team, Huddersfield Town, as Bristol City climbed up to seventh in the Sky Bet Championship tables with their third win in the past four matches yesterday.
The Bermuda captain, who has reclaimed a starting spot in the team after some good performances up front with youngster Tommy Conway, broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a header from close range into the top right corner following a Jay Dasilva cross.
The goal came on the fifth anniversary of Wells’s £5 million move from Huddersfield to Burnley on transfer deadline day.
Substitute Antoine Semenyo, who replaced Conway in the 58th minute, secured City’s third 2-0 win of the early season when he netted in the 80th minute with a shot from the centre of the box into the top left corner.
Wells was substituted two minutes later as City held on for the three points which moved them on to 11 points, just a point behind Reading who occupy the final promotion play-off spot. City are one of five teams on 11 points, three points behind leaders Sheffield United, who beat Reading 4-0 on Tuesday.
City are in action again on Saturday when they travel to Ewood Park to play Blackburn Rovers, who are fifth in the standings.
