St. George’s Colts captured three crucial points in the Premier Division on Saturday night in a hotly-contested affair.

Captain Kashe Hall scored the lone goal after picking up a rebound to curl a perfect shot into the corner of the net to spark wild celebrations midway through the second half.

“We are heading back east with three points. That’s the main thing”, stated a happy Colts coach Jarreau Hayward after the match.

“It was a hard-fought game and we came out victorious. We celebrate every goal as these guys have put the work in and deserve to enjoy the moment.”

Despite the low goals count the game was not short of excitement with referee Dwight Jackson entering five players in his notebook and one player from each team receiving a red card.

The game started with a lively exchange of attacks as Justin Corday forced St. George’s goalkeeper Zeko Burgess to make a save with his feet as early as the fourth minute.

Not to be outdone, Trojans goalkeeper Jade Morrissey was positioned well to cradle Kieshon Wilson’s near-post drive shortly after.

St. George’s started to dictate play and create chances but the Trojans’ custodian did well to deny those efforts after his defence was breached time and again. Morrissey produced a spectacular save late in the half when a free-kick took a deflection of the wall and he was forced to recover to make a diving save to keep the clean sheet going into the break.

The eastenders continued to control the match in the second half with Malachi Trott and Blaiz Hall guilty of missed opportunities or thwarted by the presence of Morrissey.

St. George’s were persistent in their attacks forcing the Trojans to lunge desperately with captain Makai Joell booked for a mistimed tackle in the 60th minute and he was dismissed just three minutes later for a similar incident.

To add insult to injury, the resulting free-kick dipped and bounced off the chest of Morrissey who then lost out in a foot chase with Kashe Hall to retrieve the rebound.

St. George’s centre back Philip Anderson had been booked early in the second half for a reckless foul only to be dismissed with 15 minutes to play for a similar offence as both teams finished the match with ten players.

The win keeps St. George’s good start to the season going while the Trojans remain pointless with two consecutive losses.
