Dale Eve makes dream debut to help Hereford into FA Cup first round

Great debut: Bermuda goalkeeper Dale Eve was praised by Hereford coach after helping them to win

Dale Eve enjoyed a dream debut with Hereford after helping his new side clinch a shock 2-1 away win over higher-league Bromley to seal a place in the FA Cup First Round proper.

With on-loan goalkeeper Cian Tyler denied permission to play by parent club Coventry City and Dino Visser hit by injury, Eve was drafted in on a short-term deal by the Vanarama National League outfit after training with them during the past month.

The Bermuda No 1, who left league rivals Spennymoor Town at the end of last season, gave a solid performance as Hereford secured progression in dramatic fashion.

Eve’s new side took the lead through Harry Pinchard in the 53rd minute but Bromley, who play one level above Hereford in the Vanarama National League, hit back with Corey Whitely levelling with 18 minutes remaining. However, with full time looming, Orrin Pendley struck a last-gasp winner to settle the tie.

“His handling was excellent,” said Hereford coach Josh Gowling on Eve's performance. “When they delivered balls in the into the box, he claimed them confidently which alleviated the pressure. That really helps, especially against a big side like that, I thought he was excellent.”

Reggie Lambe scored his fifth goal of the season to help Stowmarket Town seal a 3-2 win away to Maldon & Tiptree in the Isthmian League North Division.

The Bermuda midfielder struck at a crucial time in the game, scoring from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute to level the score at 2-2, with Jack Ainsley netting what proved to be the winner five minutes later. The victory leaves Stowmarket seventh in the table.

Bermuda captain Nahki Wells came on as 61st minute substitute but could not prevent Bristol City going down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Millwall in the Sky Bet Championship.

Tom Bradshaw put the visitors in front on the stroke of half-time before City levelled in fortuitous circumstances in the 71st minute when Cameron Pring's effort deflected off Shaun Hutchinson and diverted past helpless goalkeeper Dan Bentley.

With 14 minutes remaining, Millwall snatched victory as Zian Flemming fired in after City failed to properly clear Hutchinson's free kick.

City goalkeeper Max O'Leary then denied Millwall a third deep into added time, saving substitute Benik Afobe's penalty.
