Nahki Wells, the Bristol City striker, is looking forward to his team’s glamorous tie at home to Premier League giants Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The two sides will meet for the first time in just over five years at Ashton Gate in the week commencing Monday,February 27 with an exact date to be confirmed when television schedules have been released.

Wells and his team-mates advanced in the oldest national football competition in the world courtesy of a convincing 3-0 win over Sky Bet Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion, with the Bermuda captain having a say in City’s second goal. .

“It’s a very exciting draw for us obviously after drawing two Championships sides and having to overcome a replay of 120 minutes over Swansea to then get West Brom and beat them convincingly. Now we have a big home draw against Man City to really look forward to,” Wells told The Royal Gazette.

“I know we are probably up against the best side left in the competition, so it does not get any more difficult than that.

“I have had a few decent results in home fixtures against them. I got a 0-0 and a 1-1 draw with Burnley, but I was also turned over three times at the Etihad, so thankfully we are not playing away.”

The two sides last met in the League Cup semi-final in 2017, which Pep Guardiola’s team won 5-3 on aggregate over the two legs.

Over 26,000 supporters packed Ashton Gate back in January 2018 when the eventual champions prevailed 3-2 to advance to the final and Wells is looking forward to another huge turnout from the home fans.

“We are down at Ashton Gate so we will be looking forward to a full crowd, a packed out Ashton Gate against one of the best managers in the world, one of the best strikers in the world, one of the best teams, not only in this country but in the world, so it’s a big task,” he said.

“Obviously we have got a long way to go until then with the league and some important fixtures coming up for us to keep this run going, but I think we’re all well aware that this is a fixture that we are all looking forward to and hopefully we can make the most of it.”

Guardiola’s team have reached the last 16 of the FA Cup after overcoming Premier rivals Chelsea and Arsenal on home soil, while a new champion will be crowned this season as holders Liverpool were knocked out of the competition when losing 2-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round at the weekend.
