Paget 1 Dandy Town 2

Super-sub Jahzardae Samuels scored two late second-half goals as Dandy Town came from behind to defeat Paget in the Dudley Eve group stages on Sunday.

Samuels, who was introduced in the 66th minute, made an impact within minutes as he controlled a Danté Leverock pass before turning and hitting a firm volley from 12 yards out to give goalkeeper Azir Harvey no chance.

He scored his second just six minutes later with a firm, low shot which beat the diving Paget goalkeeper Omari DeShields for pace.

Samuels was pleased with his contribution and feels it is reward for some recent hard work.

“We have been putting in the hard work pre-season,” he said. “It feels good to make my contribution for the win. I have been training extra hard this season and putting in my own sessions, so it is nice that it paid off’.

The match started evenly, with Town having the first scoring opportunity but Damon Ming’s cross just eluded the outstretched foot of Cecoy Robinson at the back post.

Paget’s Kamali Davis was an early menace to the Town defence with his speed and he created the opening goal of the match when his harmless shot from 25 yards was palmed away by Harvey, with captain Diage Hart quickest to react to the rebound and sidefoot into the net.

Town should have scored immediately from the restart but DeShields was positioned well to palm away full back Jerome Bailey’s angled scorcher to keep his team in front going into the break.

The second half began with Town increasing the tempo and they were able to find their rhythm with Ming exploiting the left flank to force Paget on to the backfoot regularly before Samuels stepped up to change the game.

Paget nearly equalised with the last kick of the game when player/coach Antwan Russell collected his rebound from a free-kick, but his volley skimmed the crossbar.

Town captain Angelo Simmons had received his marching orders before the kick for foul and abusive language towards referee Ralshon Douglas.
