Saltus Grammar School stepped up their title bid at the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools Under-13 Boys Tournament in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Friday.

The local school swept aside Ashbury College (3-0), Royal St George’s College (3-0) and St Andrews College (6-0) to advance to the semi-finals and maintain their unbeaten record at the competition.

Saltus began the day with confidence high having won their opening three matches at Armbrae Academy and immediately picked up where they left off with Jace Postlethwaite scoring a brace and Chaz Edmead grabbing the other in the shut out win over Ashbury College.

They then continued their dominance with Tyler Pickering, Mackay Browne and Ta’han Eve all hitting the target in an equally convincing win over St George’s College.

Postlethewaite, Edmead and Browne were also on target in Saltus’s big win against St Andrews College with Conor Thomas and substitute Charlie Tudor-Thomas grabbing the others.

Top seeds Saltus topped their group to advance to the semi-final where they will face St George School.

“The team is well positioned to strongly contend for the semi -finals and the finals,” Saltus coach and former professional player John Barry Nusum told The Royal Gazette. “A successful outcome would mark the first championship for this young Saltus team.

“Anticipation runs high and team spirit is optimistic as the boys enter every match with a well known Brazilian anthem.

“They have victory in sight and to make the long journey all worth it.”
