Somerset Trojans will be hoping lightning strikes twice when they host champions PHC Zebras in the Premier Division at Somerset Cricket Club tomorrow.

The West Enders edged their rivals 2-1 in an evenly fought Dudley Eve Trophy quarter-final in the previous encounter between the two clubs at Devonshire Recreation Club on October 5 and will undoubtedly be looking to repeat the dose.

Danvers Seymour Jr, who serves on Somerset’s coaching staff, is bracing for what he anticipates will be another close affair.

“PHC are the reigning league champions that says it all,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“Trojans have a young team with much to learn and many of them are playing at this level for the first time, so the key is finding consistency in our performances.

“The only expectation of the team is to give 100 per cent. The rest is out of our hands.”

Trojans are still searching for their first league win having drawn against promoted Young Men’s Social Club Bluebirds (2-2) and X-Roads Warriors (1-1) in their first two outings of the season.

Zebras will be keen to avenge their Dudley Eve Trophy loss to Trojans and also get their league title defence back on track having suffered their first loss of the campaign at home to high-flying Devonshire Cougars last time out on October 8.

PHC captain Daren Usher was confident his team could snap a two-game losing streak.

“The boys are ready to go. It’s been an unfortunate start to the season for us having lost our last two games, but we get to right those wrongs Sunday,” he said.

“Somerset have already gotten over us once this season. But in no way do we believe they have an edge over us because we know that we are capable of much more than our two previous results.

“But we still have to respect that they are one up at the moment and I expect it to be a tough fight as this is a derby.

In tomorrow’s remaining Premier Division matches, bottom team Hamilton Parish host landlords St George’s Colts at Wellington Oval; high-flying Paget Lions are at home to X-Roads at Southampton Oval; while Dandy Town have been pitted with Young Men’s Social Club at Goose Gosling Field (6.30pm).

All matches begin at 3pm unless otherwise stated.

Like Trojans, Social Club, X-Roads, Dandy Town and Parish have also yet to get a league win under their belts.

Meanwhile, First Division action begins tonight with second place Robin Hood hosting leaders and fellow unbeaten side Devonshire Colts at Goose Gosling Field (8pm).

Hood trail Colts on goal-difference heading into the mouth-watering top of the table clash.

In tomorrow’s remaining First Division matches, Ireland Rangers host Somerset Eagles at Somerset Cricket Club; Boulevard entertain Vasco da Gama at Goose Gosling Field; while Southampton Rangers and St David’s Warriors will do battle at Southampton Oval.

All second tier matches begin at 12.30pm unless otherwise stated.
