Southampton Rangers lose hope of promotion after draw

Southampton Rangers saw their promotion hopes virtually dashed after being held to a 3-3 draw against Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field on Sunday.

The result leaves Keith Jennings team in fourth, six points adrift of the remaining promotion spot occupied by Robin Hood, who have already played their full quota of league matches.

Rangers can mathematically reel Hood in but must win their remaining fixtures against Ireland Rangers and Vasco by big margins if they are to stand any chance of going up in the event the promotion race comes down to goal difference, with Hood and third-place Wolves holding a considerable advantage on that criteria.

Hood closed out their league campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Vasco at Goose Gosling Field on Sunday and must now rely on other results to go their way.

Wolves suffered a 3-1 defeat away to champions and already promoted Devonshire Colts at Police Field on Sunday but will fancy their chances of overhauling Hood and clinching promotion. They sit third, four points behind Hood, and host third from bottom Eagles and bottom club Ireland Rangers at Bernard Park in their remaining two league fixtures.

The match between Boulevard and Ireland Rangers at Goose Gosling Field on Sunday was not played as a result of an insufficient number of officials.
