Ten-man FC Bascome defeated North Village 3-2 in the Appleby Under-18 knockout final at the Flora Duffy Stadium on Sunday.

Bascome, who finished the match with ten players after Mosias Mills, one of the goalscorers was sent off, got their other goals from Christian Piney and Ramsay Soutter.

Village scored through a Jyus Dill penalty and a header from Saezjhor Dent.

Bascome, winners of the Charles Marshall Cup in January, are also in contention to win their respective league. They raced to a 3-1 lead going into the break, but they had to hold on for the win after conceding a goal and having a player sent off in the second half.

“It feels great because this is the second trophy we have won this season,’’ Khari Sharrieff, the Bascome FC captain told The Royal Gazette. “We improved as a team throughout the season and it was a great one.

“In the second half, the wind was coming against us, so it was very hard to just kick the ball forward and do what we normally do.

“What won it for us was keeping our heads calm. The penalty that I gave away, another team would have dropped their heads, I think we did a good job keeping our heads up to score another two goals.”

Bascome coach Mark Mills was pleased to see his team getting better during the course of the season.

“It is great as a coach to see the improvement of the boys,” Mills said.

“The beginning of the season we started off slow but it is just a joy to see the team improve. The majority of the team is under age so they did very well this season.

“I attest the second half has gone how our season has as a whole. There have been a lot of moments in the season when things didn’t go well, but credit to the boys for being mentally tough.

“We play Somerset Trojans on Thursday at the Bermuda Football Association Field. From what I understand, that is the league decider, so if we win that game we do the triple.”
