My body failed me, says Duffy

Flora Duffy endured a disappointing World Championship Series debut in the Dextro Energy Triathlon in Madrid yesterday after failing to finish.Duffy had been hoping for a solid performance in the picturesque Casa de Campo Park in central Madrid the second race of the seven event series but admitted: “My body failed me.”The 21-year-old clocked a strong time of 19 minutes 36 seconds in the swim, exiting the water in 21st position, but was forced to drop out of the race during the bike ride due to tiredness.Duffy said on her Twitter account after the race: “Not a good day for me. No legs + sick = poor performance. My body failed me. On to the next one I guess . . .”Canadian Paula Findlay stamped her name in the record books with a stunning win in the elite women’s race.Findlay has now won four of her last five Championship Series races, including London, Kitzbühel last year and the season opener in Sydney, and that now puts her tied with reigning ITU World Champion Emma Moffatt for total series race wins.In the men’s race, Alistair Brownlee captured his third consecutive Championship Series title and created some family history at the same time when younger brother Jonathan Brownlee joined him on the podium with silver.
