Reta replaces Mount at BSRA

Runa Reta, a former world top-30 player, will replace Andrew Mount as the assistant director of Bermuda Squash Racquets Association (BSRA) next month when Mount leaves the Island.According to BSRA director Patrick Foster, Mount has helped forge a strong relationship with the junior players, helping them to some “fantastic results” in the recent Caribbean Championships. His final duties will be to coach the men’s national team at the Caribbean Championships in Trinidad from August 19 to 25, before bringing down the curtain on his time in Bermuda with a ceremony on August 30.“Andrew has been a fantastic asset to the BSRA and will be greatly missed. However, we support him in his decision to return to Canada and take up an exciting role at Northfield Racquets and Fitness Club,” said Foster.Runa is a former Canadian women’s champion and a Pan Am Games women’s gold medal winner. The 31-year-old will arrive in Bermuda on September 13 and will jump right into the thick of the action with five major events on the horizon for both senior and junior players.“Her coaching, playing and coaching background will be a great resource for Bermuda players to make use of,” added Foster. “Our expectations for her will be to nurture the junior players to more success at the upcoming Canadian Junior Open Championships in December.“Also, we hope she can provide structured squash training and development for all BSRA members and to assist in the organisation of all areas at the BSRA including events, coaching, refereeing, and general administration at the governing body.“We are also hoping that having a female coach with such high level playing abilities will help grow the number of female squash players in Bermuda. “Runa will be in charge of all national squads, coach and will travel with Bermuda teams, assist with the schools and development programme for the children and be available for private lessons to BSRA members.
