Thomas and Bove win William Way finals

David Thomas and Erika Bove were crowned the male and female champions of the William Way Memorial Tournament at the WER Joell Tennis Stadium on Saturday.Thomas proved too strong for Sam Butler in the men’s final, winning 6-0, 2-6 7-5, while Bove lifted the women’s title after defeating Jacklyn Lambert 6-1, 6-2.Held in the honour of former Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) president William Way, the tournament was the first major competition of the new season.Last year’s winners were Gavin Manders (men’s singles) and Jacklyn Lambert (ladies singles).BLTA vice-president Gill Butterfield said: “It was a great success and David Thomas beat Sam Butler in three thrilling sets in the final, having knocked out the top seed, Jensen Bascome.“Erika Bove beat Jacky Lambert 6-1 6-2 in the ladies singles final.”
